Hello and nice to meet you!
After college, I lived for two years in rural Japan. The experience made a lasting impression on me. The Japanese people I met were so thoughtful and took exceptional care with physical things. I was especially impressed by:
As a student at Smith College, I admired British textile designer William Morris. His guidance was, "Have only things in your houses that you know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." I realize now that I interpreted this phrase as permission to hold on to many useful and beautiful things! Over the years, I did what many of us do. I lived in progressively larger spaces and accumulated things to fill them with meaning. |
COVID forced me to reckon with my things.
While working from home in 2020, I could no longer avoid my stuff. I noticed my closet contained clothes I rarely wore. I realized I would never use all the dinnerware and table linens I had lovingly accumulated. And piles of my well-meaning but half finished projects lurked everywhere.
The KonMari Method® offered me a fresh start.
I discovered The KonMari Method in late 2020. I had recently left my job and was seeking a fresh start. In a single night, I read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Right away, I liked the approach Marie Kondo described. And I felt motivated to do it! Tidy up completely and in one go!
In 2021, I completed my Tidying Festival. I discovered that parting with things was not easy for me. However, I got better at it as I went along. Expressing gratitude to items before discarding them helped me. And keeping items out of the landfill filled me with some pride.
"The real joy begins after you finish." I had heard this phrase from other KonMari experts and found it to be true for me as well. I felt so much lighter when I could look around my home and see items I truly cherished—instead of clutter!

"Just because you love it doesn't mean you have to own it."
This was the most important thing I learned during my own KonMari experience. I still remind myself of this whenever I feel the impulse to purchase something new. How else can I experience this great item without owning it?
There is power in the method. The KonMari Method has been popular for nearly ten years. But until I read the book, I didn't understand why it was so popular. Now, I have experienced it for myself. And I not only see the benefits everyday but am actually living them.
This is why I'm a KonMari Consultant. I love what I do! This unique role brings together the best experiences of my life: my Smith College experience plus an MBA from the Isenberg School; my education work in Japan; my leadership at Crate & Barrel; my management role at Kate's Paperie in New York; my marketing position at Bay Path University—I bring all of it every day to my work and to my clients!
Don't be afraid to consider getting KonMari support. If you would like to talk with me about what a guided KonMari experience could look like for you, I'd love to connect with you. You will not experience sales pressure from me – just thoughtful interest and compassion.
Thank you for reading my story!
